Abstract:
A s one o f the resu lts o f urbanization, the evo lvem ent of urban spatia l pattern clearly reflects the process o f ur ban ization. Based on Landsa t therm a l images and the function o f spatial analysis in G IS, this paper stud ies the spatial expansion process of Jiangy in c ity from the perspective of spatia l deve lopm ent and then d iscusses them a in facto rs w hich influence the deve lopm ent o f Jiangy in. The result show s that from 1996 to 2005 the urban area in Jiangy in w as expanding w ith qu ite fast pace and strong intensity, urban com pac tness w as rising during the expansion process and the urban spa tia l pattern w as chang ing from epitax ia l type to packing type. Factors such as so cioeconom ic deve lopm en t, fore ign in vestm ent and c ity plann ing play a sign ificant ro le in the urban ization progress and the urban expansion in Jiangy in.
