Abstract:
Ferm enta tion o f xy lose to ethano lw as investiga ted w ith P ichia stip itis by lim ited prov id ing oxygen. The results showed that the speed of stirring and a ir ra tew as m ain factor fo r oxygen transfer ra te. E ffect o f stirr ing speed on oxygen transfer rate w asm ore than tha t of a ir ra te. The chang e o f stirr ing speed led to g reat change o f a ir rate between 275 and 350 round per m inute. To contro l oxygen transfer rate by the change o f stirring speed when a ir ra tew as 2.0 L /L?h. It w as the best e ffect of stirring speed at 350 r /m in. The rate o f consum ed xy losew as 91. 7%. The concentration of ethano l reached 14.3 g /L. W hen a ir rate was 3. 0 L /L? h and stirring speed w as 300 r/m in, the rate of consum ed xy lose and stirring speed both reached max im um values which w ere 9613%, 15.0 g /L respec tive ly.
